hinengaro
1. (noun) mind, thought, intellect, consciousness, awareness.
Ko te take, ko tētahi rānei o ngā take, i rite ai te tangata ki te Atua nā te mea he hinengaro tō te tangata (TP 5/1906:1). / The reason, or one of the reasons, that humans are like God is because humans have an intellect.

kia ahatia
1. what can be done, so what, what business is it of yours, what's it got to do with you, what does it matter, never mind - an idiom used to indicate a lack of interest by the speaker for the comments of another person because they are of little importance.

I kī taurangi koe ka whakaaetia au kia haere ki te pikitia. Kia ahatia! Me noho koe ki te whakaoti i ō mahi mō te kura. / You promised that I would be allowed to go to the film. So what! You must stay and finish your homework.

mākohakoha
1. (verb) to be relaxed, tranquil.
Ko te mea tuatahi mā te tangata mārena, mā te tangata rānei e tata ana te mārena, ko te hanga whare kia wehe kē, kia mākohakoha ai tā rāua nā noho ko tōna hoa, kia pihangaiti ai ā rāua taonga (TP 12/1909:2). / The first thing for the married man, or the man about to be married, is to build a separate house so that he and his partner can like in tranquility, and so that their possessions can be gathered together.

1. (verb) to begin to move, spring up in the mind (of feelings and emotions), swell, increase in bulk.
Ka kī atu a Tū-rāhui, “He aroha ōku ki tā tāua tamaiti me taku titiro ake ki te rā e whanake nei i te huapae o te moana; ka toko ake te aroha i a au, koia e tangi nei ahau.” (JPS 1913:176). / Tū-rāhui replied, “On account of my affection for our child, and because on seeing the sun rise on the sea horizon, love welled up in me, that is the reason I am crying.”
