1. (verb) to be affable, easygoing, permissive, simple, soft, easy, tolerant, pliable, kind, obedient, easy, flexible, supple.

Ka ngangautia e ia kia ngāwari, kia pakupaku, ka āta whakapiritia ki te mamae, hāware katoa atu nō te mea he pai tonu hoki te hāware mō te whakaora (HP 1991:23). / She chewed it until it was soft and small and carefully applied it to the sore part. It had saliva throughout because saliva is quite good for healing.

tākirikau

1. (noun) variety of harakeke from Te Tai Rāwhiti. A very handsome harakeke, growing at times up to 3 m high. Straight, very strong, pale yellowy-green leaves. Bright yellow-orange margin and keel. Small number of very high, heavy kōrari. One of the finer cultivars of flax which can be stripped of fibre with the fingers and without the use of a shell. Produces long strands of strong, shiny fibre. Very good piupiu variety. Easy to prepare and has plenty of length so is particularly good for ladies piupiu.

turingāwari

1. (noun) variety of harakeke from Ngāti Porou. A tall, soft, bendy harakeke. Margin and keel reddish brown with light shading on tips of young leaves. Good for kete harakeke and easy to work.

piriwai

1. (noun) mayfly - an insect widespread in Aotearoa/New Zealand rivers and streams. Adults are short-lived and at rest its wings point straight up like sails. The nymph stage is found on the undersides of river stones, they are easy to identify by their three long tail filaments. They drift downstream in the current, and fish feed on them. The typical length including the tail is 15 millimetres. Behind the legs, along the sides of the body, are feathered gills for breathing underwater. The bodies are often flattened to form a low profile to the current, which helps prevent them being swept away. There are about 40 endemic species of mayfly.
