hāpai
1. (verb) (-ngia,-tia) to take up, support, shoulder.
Ka roa kātahi ka tahuri a Ngā-tokowaru ki te whakatūtū i tana ope taua, ā, ka eke ki te mano āna toa hei hāpai i tana pakanga ki a Ngāti Hikairo (NIT 1995:347). / After some time Ngā-tokowaru set about raising his war party, and his warriors numbered a thousand in support of his war against Ngāti Hikairo.

2. (verb) (-a,-na,-nga,-ngia,-tia) to lift up, lift, elevate, raise, mete out.
Kātahi ka hāpainga au e Rihimona ki runga, ka pangaia au ki roto i te awa (HP 1991:20). / Then Rihimona lifted me up and tossed me into the stream.

4. (verb) (-a,-nga) to set out, set off, start out, get under way (of a journey, etc.) - especially when used with the passive ending.
I te ata ka hāpaia te ope, ā, moe rawa atu i Te Kainga-pipi - kei Wai-ngaro (NIT 1995:257). / In the morning the party set off and they finally slept at Te Kainga-pipi - at Wai-ngaro.
5. (verb) to rise (of heavenly bodies), dawn.
Rā te haeata e hāpai ana mai (JPS 1948:66). / There behold the dawn's rising.
6. (verb) to carry, bear (weapons and tools).
Ko ōna mātua he toa katoa ki te hāpai rākau (TPH 15/12/1899:5). / His father and uncles were all warriors who took up arms.
7. (noun) carrier, bearer, porter.
Te amorangi ki mua, te hāpai ō ki muri (JPS 1904:76). / The priests are in front, the bearers of provisions in the rear. (A whakataukī said of an army where everybody should be in their place. It is also explained as the 'amorangi' being the spiritual side and the 'hāpai ō' as the physical needs, thus implying that the spiritual aspect should not be neglected.)
hīkoi
1. (verb) (-tia) to step, stride, march, walk.
Ka tū au ki runga ka tīmata au ki te hīkoi (HP 1991:23). / I stood up and began to walk.

2. (noun) step, march, hike, trek, tramp, trip, journey, stepping (netball).

ō
1. (noun) provisions for a journey, food.
Ka patua e Apakura ngā ō mō te taua. I a ia e patu ana i ngā aruhe hei ō mō te taua takitaki i te mate o tana tamaiti, ka whakahuatia e ia tana tangi (NM 1928:33). / Apakura prepared food as provisions for the war party. While she was pounding the fern root as food for the war party seeking to avenge the death of her child, she chanted her lament.
3. (noun) flowing.
Nui atu i te iwa tekau māero te whānui o te ngutuawa, o taua awa; ka wai māori tonu atu te moana i te wai o taua awa, tae noa atu ki te kotahi rau e rua tekau māero te roa o te rerenga o te wai māori ki waho ki te moana (TWMNT 18/4/1876:90). / The width of that river mouth is more than ninety miles. The sea is of fresh water because that river flows with fresh water right out to one hundred and twenty miles distance out into the ocean.

haere
1. (verb) (-a,-hia,-tia) to go, depart, travel, walk, continue, come (when followed by mai).
Ka mutu tēnei ka haere atu rātau ki te pāra ki te haina i ō rātau ingoa ki te pukapuka a te wahine a te Kāwana (TPH 7/6/1898:6). / When this ended they went to the parlour to sign the book of the Governor's wife.
Ka haerehia e te wīra o muri a runga o taku waewae katau (HP 1991:22). / The back wheel ran over my right leg.

2. (modifier) becoming, getting - indicates gradual change or progressive increase in a state when following a verb.

4. (modifier) to go - used following hiahia and pīrangi as a shortened form for hiahia ki te haere 'to want to go'.
Ka kōrero atu au ki aku rangatira o te puni, kua mate taku pāpā, ā, kei te hiahia haere tonu au i taua wā, i taua rangi. / I told my superiors of the camp that my father had died and that I wanted to go right then, that day.

whātika
1. (verb) to straighten, stand up, arise.
Te mea i āhuareka rawa he āporo i whiua ki roto ki te tāpu wai, ka whātika te tamariki ki te ruku, ki te hopu i te āporo ki ō rātou niho (TWMNT 11/1/1876:7). / The most enjoyable thing was apples thrown into a tub of water and the children stand up to duck down and seize an apple with their teeth.
whīkoi
1. (verb) (-tia) to step, stride, march, walk.
