1. (noun) large cup sponge, Gellius imperialis - bright red and about 250 mm tall shaped like a cup.

1. (noun) long finger sponge, Callyspongia ramosa - skeletal masses 600 mm long and 300 mm wide are common. Light yellowish brown in colour. Living colonies occur on rocks below low tide.

1. (noun) corkscrew shell, Tenagodus weldii - a sea snail with a corkscrew-shaped tube shell with and open slit running along one side. Grows to 5 cm long and the tube is 5 mm wide. The animal inside feeds by filtering food from the water. Found on the eastern coast of the northern North Island. Lives in dense yellow sponge at 45-180 m.
