pukuaroha
1. (verb) to be sympathetic.
Nā te pahekotanga o Pōhio ki a Te Maihāroa ka noho mōriroriro ia i te tini o ngā rangatira o Ngāi Tahu. E pukuaroha ana ki te tohunga, engari e whakahē ana ki āna mahi (TTR 1990:113). / By joining Te Maiharoa, Pohio alienated himself from the majority of the Ngāi Tahu leaders, who sympathised with the tohunga but did not approve of his actions.

āroharoha

1. how sad, how disappointing, what a pity - an idiom used to express sympathy, disappointment or regret. It can also be used in a sarcastic way or to emphasise an idea.

2. it serves (you) right - sometimes used idiomatically to indicate the speakers lack of sympathy.
Pare: Kua tangohia te raihana a Tahuti. Rangi: Ka pai. Koinā anō e mātotoru nā te waewae (HKK 1999:72). / Pare: Tahuti has had his licence taken away. Rangi: It serves him right. That's because of his heavy foot.

1. Yes and serves you right - an idiom expressing that the speaker knew that someone would get into trouble and that it was all the victim's fault so the speaker has no sympathy for the victim.
Āe, āe! Ka kīia atu kia kaua e rawekehia te naihi rā, nā, kua motu tō ringa (PK 2008:2). / Yes, and serves you right! You were told not to touch that knife and now you've cut your hand.
