1. (verb) (-tia) to push apart, push away, separate, segregate.

Ka puta te whakaaro o Tāne. Kātahi ka huri te pane ki raro ko ngā waewae ki runga— - ka whakatāuke a Rangi, tāuke a Papa (TKP 5/11/1857:3). / Tāne had an idea. Then he turned his head down and his feet up - Rangi was pushed away and Papa was separated from him.
