1. (verb) (-a) to knock over, stumble repeatedly, beat out the time, demolish, knock to pieces, take to pieces, take down, destroy, kill.

I te 28 o Maehe 1836, ka huakina, ka pāhorotia a Maketū e Ngāti Hauā me Ngāi Te Rangi. Ka tukitukia te whare me te toa o Te Tāpihana (TTR 1990:13). / Maketū was attacked and sacked by Ngāti Hauā and Ngāi Te Rangi on 28 March 1836. Tapsell's house and store were destroyed.
