1. (verb) to quarrel, dispute.

Nō reira hoki, tēnei whakataukī a Waikato, e ka whakanehenehe a Ngāti Whakaue ki a ia, i a rāua e ngangare nei i te kurunga kōwhatu o ngā roi a Te Kuīni nei 'Tā te mano pai hoki o Waikato, te pōkai iho ai te iwi ririki, te iwi tūtūā.' (JPS 1990:167). / So, therefore, too, there is this whakataukī of Waikato if and when Ngāti Whakaue is quarrelling with him [Waikato], while those two are pounding the Queen's fernroot with a stone pounder 'The large numbers of Waikato embrace small and low-born tribes.'
