huarere
1. (noun) weather.

He karakia anō mō Tāwhiri-mātea, he tūā mō te rangi (NM 1928:5). / There were ritual chants for Tāwhiri-mātea and ritual chants for the weather.
3. (noun) heavens, heavenly realm - there are believed to be twelve heavens, the highest of which is te toi o ngā rangi.

kōripo marama
1. (verb) to have bad weather, have stormy weather, have inclement weather.
Ki Aotearoa tūtaki ai ngā hau mahana, haumākū o te raki ki ngā hau mātao, hau maroke o te tonga. Kāore e rata ēnei hau tētahi ki tētahi; koinā te take e kōripo marama ai ngā rangi (Te Ara 2016). / In Aotearoa/New Zealand, warm moist air from the north meets cold dry air from the south. The winds are not compatible with each other: that's the reason the weather becomes inclement.
2. (noun) bad weather, stormy weather, inclement weather.
Mēnā ka ua mō te katoa o te rā, ka kīia tērā he kōripo marama. / If it rains for the whole of a day that is called 'kōripo marama'.
2. (modifier) warm, sultry, balmy, moderately hot (of the weather).
He rangi tūāhuru, hēmanawa ana (PK 2008:984). / A sultry day, it's uncomfortably hot.

4. (noun) favourite, darling, protégé.
Mehemea ehara ia i te paruhi a Kerei rāua ko Te Hīhana, me ngā kaiwhakahaere o te mahi whākorekore, pēnei kua tū pea ia (TWMNT 19/7/1879:449). / If he had not been the protégé of Grey, Sheehan, and the Repudiation party, perhaps he would have been elected.
mao
1. (verb) to stop raining, become fine, clear (of rain).
Ko te arawhata i Ōmāhu me tērā i Te Pakipaki kua riro i te wai. E whakamao ana te ua, engari mao rawa ake kua nui ngā rawa me ngā taonga i mate (TWMNT 25/1/1876:20). / The bridge at Ōmāhu and that at Pakipaki have been taken by the water. The rain is easing, but when it finally clears much wealth and property will have been destroyed.
2. (noun) fine weather, clearing weather.
E mao ana ki ua, e ua ana ki mao (NP 2001:37). / It is fine weather until it rains, it rains until it is fine. (A saying used, not just about the weather, but commentating that good times alternate with bad.)

He nui ngā māra a te Māori, ka takoto ki ngā wāhi aupaki ka whitingia e te rā (Te Ara 2015). / The kūmara gardens of the Māori were large, and lay on places that were sloping and shone on by the sun.
3. (noun) sloping ground.
He mea nui ake ki ngā iwi o Te Ika a Māui ngā māra, ā, whakatōngia ai ki ngā aupaki whakateraki kia whakawhitia e te rā (Te Ara 2015). / Gardens were more important to the North Island tribes, and they were planted on north-facing slopes so that they would be shone on by the sun.
paihuarere
1. (noun) perfect weather, fine weather.
Tōna tikanga kia papā te whatitiri, kia hikohiko te uira, kia pōrukuruku te rangi i tō wehenga atu, engari i rangi paihuarere, i tau ko pakiwaru, ko te paki o Atutahi, te whetū tārake o te rangi (HM 1/1995). / The thunder is supposed to resound, the lightning flash and the sky be clouded over at your departure, but it's a fine day, the fine weather has settled and it's the fine weather of Canopus, the star that stands out in the sky.
matapae huarere
1. (noun) weather forecast, weather report.
Kei te koa ngā kaipatu ahi i te matapae huarere mō te pō nei, i te mea, mā te ua e māmā ake ai ā rātou mahi i te pō tiripapā o Guy Fawkes. / The firefighters are happy with the weather forecast for tonight because the rain will make their work easier on Guy Fawkes night.
2. (noun) dead branch.
Ko te tūtū he mea takai ki te rimurimu mā kia pōhēhē ai te kōkō he hiwi, arā, he peka rākau kua hiwia (W 1971:54). / The tūtū is wrapped with white seaweed so the the tūī thinks it is a branch, that is a branch that has weathered.
2. (modifier) inclement, severe, rough (of the weather).
Ko wai e whakatō i te kōanga katopō? (Ng 1993:222). / Who will plant in the inclement spring?

Nā te piki me te heke o te pā mahana o tōna tinana, ka āhei te tuatara te noho ki tēnei whenua hātai (Te Ara 2015). / Because of its variable body temperature, the tuatara is able to live in this temperate land.

Ko te hautai he kākahu tawhito, pākarukaru (RK 1994:190). / A 'hautai' is an old tattered garment.

Ki a Te Ātiawa ko te kākahi, ko te kōrehurehu i runga i te moana āio; hei te rangi ātaahua ka āhua auahi mai i runga o te moana (M 2004:232). / To Te Ātiawa the 'kākahi' is the haze on the sea which is seen of fine days a little like smoke on the sea.

marangai

He wahine nāna i huaki mai, ka titiro mai ki a au e tū ana, e mate ana, e hūwiniwini ana, e ākina ana e te marangai; hūkeke noa ana aku niho, ko tōku tinana katoa matangurunguru ana i te mātaotao (TWMNT 20/4/1875:87). / I knocked on the door. It was a woman that opened it and she looked at me standing there in trouble, chilled to the bone, lashed by the rain with my teeth chattering and my whole body numb from the cold.

paki o Hewa
1. fine weather.
Ko te paki o Hewa ngā rangi o tana tangihanga, erangi, nō te amohanga atu i te kāwhena ki runga o Taupiri, ka whakaheke te ua tātā (TTR 1996:229). / For the days of the tangihanga the weather was fine, but as the coffin was borne onto Taupiri heavy rain fell.
