rārā
1. (particle) over there, there, yonder - variation of rā. Used after nouns, location words, pronouns and personal names to indicate position or connection not near or connected with the speaker or listener or the principal characters in a narrative. Like the other two locative particles, nā and nei, it follows manner particles (i.e. kau, kē, noa, rawa and tonu) and directional particles (i.e. mai, atu, iho and ake) in the phrase, if they are present.
Me i noho koia hoki te Pākehā ki ētahi whenua atu rārā, tēnā hoki e pēhea? (JPS 1990:151). / If the Pākehā lived in other scattered lands, how would that be?
rārā
1. (noun) small branch, twig.
I te hokinga mai e mauria ake ana e rātou ngā rārā o te hunakeha, tō rātou rākau tipua, rākau tapu rawa hoki, te puna wairua o Ngāti Hāuaterangi (TTR 1994:145). / They returned with branches from the legendary sacred hunakeha tree, an ancestral spiritual tree for Ngāti Hāua-te-rangi.
3. (noun) continual sound, rumble, hum.
I kōrero rātou mō te rarā o te whatitiri, me te mura o te uira e kōhikohiko ana. / They spoke about the rumble of the thunder and the glow of the lightning flashing.
Ka rongo au i te rarā o ngā waha, ka mōhio iho kua tae au ki te rūma tika (HJ 2017:16). / When I heard the hum of voices, I knew I had reached the right room.

rara
1. (verb) (-ia) to spread out, scatter.

hue rarā
1. (noun) shaker, rattle - a small gourd with the seeds either left to dry or replaced with small stones used as a musical instrument to create a strong rhythm.

Ko te hue rarā he hue ngā mauranga ā-ringa a wētahi i roto i ngā mahinga kanikani, whakatautau, whakakorikori rānei (Wh3 2003:162). / The hue rarā (rattles) are gourds that are sometime held in the hands during dances, songs of enchantment or with body movements.
