1. (verb) (-ia,-ngia) to put to one side, pass by, turn aside.

Nō tana whiunga i tana taiaha ki a Tangata-iti ka whakataha ake a Tangata-iti, ngau kē ana te taiaha a Hari ki te rākau, mau tonu atu (NIT 1995:321). / When he struck Tangata-iti with his taiaha, Tangata-iti turned it aside and Hari's taiaha stuck fast in a tree.
