1. (verb) to lie in a heap, lie together.

He maha ngā hipi kua mate i te wai. Kei te one i kō mai o Hukarere e tāwhetawheta ana ngā tinana, nā te wai i kawe ki waho ki te moana, ā, paea ana ki uta takoto ai (TWM 6/6/1867:1). / Many sheep died in the water. The carcasses are lying together on the beach beyond Hukarere, the water having carried them out to sea and then having caste them ashore to lie there.
