Ko te ingoa nei o Te Whiti-o-Rongomai e ai ki ōna uri (he manu iraira ki te rangi tau rawa ki Puke-Te Whiti), te ariā o te kaupapa i whakaaritia ai mā rāua ko Tohu hei waha i te ao Māori (TTR 1994:176). / According to his descendants, the name Te Whiti-o-Rongomai (celestial flight of the shining one, resting at Puke-Te Whiti) came to symbolise the essence of the mission that he and Tohu were called to carry in the Maori world.
