1. (verb) (-a,-ngia) to join, bond, attach, connect.

Then the Māori minister spoke formally to me saying that this rock should be named Rongomaipāpā (this is the ancestor that joins Te Arawa with Ngāti Kahungunu.)

3. (noun) conjunction - a word used to connect clauses or sentences.
I te kōrero 'ka kai, ā, ka moe', he tūhono te 'ā'. / In the sentence 'they eat and slept, 'and' is a conjunction.
4. (noun) tie (music).
Ko te tūhono: Kia honoa ētahi oro e rua kia kotahi noa iho te oro e rangona ana (RTP 2015:116). / A tie: When two sounds are joined so that the sound that is heard is just one.
