tīpako haukume
1. (noun) biased sample, non-representative sample, skewed sample.

Perhaps the Auckland telephone book is looked at and every fiftieth person is phoned, they are the only ones interviewed. This is a sample, but a biased sample. It's not a random sample because people living outside Auckland are not involved, and nor are people who don't have a phone.
