whakahira
1. (verb) extol, exalt, glorify, honour, hail, laud, highlight.
E whakahira ana ēnei kōrero i te mana o te wahine inā hoki tā rātou ako i a Māui ki te mātauranga e tutuki i a ia ngā mahi (Te Ara 2015). / These traditions extol the mana of women, because they taught Māui the knowledge to achieve his deeds.
2. (modifier) great, highly important, magnificent, wonderful, inspiring.
Ko te ingoa i tohua mōna ko te poutikanga, he tohu whakahira i a ia hei kaitiaki i te whakapono o ngā Ringatū (TTR 1998:26). / The title bestowed on him was poutikanga (main pillar), an important indication of his importance as a guardian of the Ringatū faith.

miramira
1. (verb) to give prominence to, highlight (text), emphasise.
Nāna i miramira ngā painga o te whakaakoranga Pākehā e tuku rā kia ōrite te kaha o te Māori ki te tātāwhāinga ki tērā o te Pākehā (TTR 1994:96). / He emphasised the advantages of a European teaching methods in allowing Māori children to compete equally with Europeans.
2. (verb) to be red hot.
Ka roa te kainga a te ahi, nā, miramira kau ana te rino (W 1971:202). / After being in the fire for a long time the iron was red hot.
3. (modifier) bold (of print, etc.).
Ko te kīwaha tonu te mea tuatahi e noho miramira mai ana ki te pae tuatahi (HKK 1999:9). / The idiom itself is the first thing sitting in bold on the first line.
4. (noun) uvula - the fleshy extension at the back of the soft palate which hangs above the throat.
Kei roto i te korokoro tō miramira e tāwerewere ana (W 1971:202). / Your uvula hangs down in the throat.
tīpako
1. (verb) (-a,-hia,-na,-tia) to pick out, take one at a time, take a little here and there, highlight, cull, single out, select (computer).
2. (noun) sample, selection, sampling.
Mēnā he nui rawa te taupori o tētahi tūhuratanga tauanga, ka whiriwhiria he tīpako hei whakaata i taua taupori (TRP 2010:290). / If the population being studied in a statistical investigation is very large, a sample is selected to reflect that population (TRP 2010:290).

hirahira

Ka rāwekeweke ētahi kaihopu i ngā peita hei ‘whakapai’ i aua toi mō te whakaahua - ka hirahiratia ki te tioka, ki te waituhi, te pene hinu (Te Ara 2017). / Some recorders retouched the paint on the artworks to ‘improve’ them for photographic recording - highlighting them with chalk, and art materials such as ink and crayon.
2. (modifier) great, important, of consequence, significant, eminent.
Kua mōhio anō te Pākehā ki ngā mate hirahira noa atu i roto i te kai tupeka (KO 1/4/1882:3). / The Pākehā actually know of the significant ill effects of smoking.

1. true to form, it's a family trait, inherited quality, hereditary trait - this idiom highlights a person's character and inherited qualities or those of his/her ancestors. It can be applied to both good and bad traits.
Ka rawe kē te reo o Kiri! He momo tonu tērā nō tana whānau. / Kiri's voice is wonderful! That's a family trait.
