1. (verb) to be faded, faint (of colours, etc.) .

(HM 2/1994:3). / We don't want to redo the moko just for the sake of it, but perhaps by doing that the moko will remain forever, and not just fade!
2. (verb) (-a,-tia) to insult, offend, malign, defame, slight, denigrate, disparage, ill-treat.
Kei te muhanitia tō tātou rangatira e te pokokōhua rā! / Our chief is being maligned by that bugger!

3. (noun) insult, affront, aspersion.
Nā te muhani a tētahi rangatira o Ngāti Ruanui ki a Te Kirikakara ka tono a Te Pūoho ki tana whanaunga, ki a Te Rauparaha, kia āwhinatia rātou ki te rapu utu (TTR 1990:256). / Because of an insult to Te Kirikakara by a chief of Ngāti Ruanui, Te Pūoho asked his relative, Te Rauparaha, to help them seek revenge.
