1. (verb) (-na,-tia) to meet, encounter, make meet - usually followed by ki.

I te kēti o te kura ka tūtaki te Kāwana ki te pīhopa me ngā minita me ngā kaitieki hoki o te kura (TP 10/1911:2). / At the school's gate the Governor met the bishop, the ministers and the school trustees.

2. (verb) (-na,-tia) to shut, close.

3. (verb) (-na,-tia) to close up, block.

Kotahi tētahi awa nui kei Marika, ko Korotono Awa te ingoa, he mea whakapuni, arā he mea tūtaki kia rere ai mā roto i tētahi awa anō e hāngai ana te rere ki te tāone o Nui Oka, tāone o Marika, hei wai whakarite i ngā hiahia wai o ngā tāngata o taua tāone. Ko te roa o taua tūtaki, arā whakapuni kotahi koata māero (TJ 30/8/1898:4). / There is a river in America, called the Croton River, which is dammed, that is it is blocked so that it flows into another river which flows directly to the city of New York in America for water to meet the water needs of the residents of that city. The length of that dam is a quarter of a mile.

4. (noun) meeting.
