huānga whakaari

ira tangata
1. (noun) human genes, human element, mortals.

āhuatanga puoro
1. (noun) musical element.
Ko ēnei ngā āhuatanga puoro e iwa nei, arā, ko ngā wāhanga matua o te puoro: te rangi, te ūngeri, te reo niko, te āhua, te hā, te tangi, te tere, te kahaoro, me te kakano (RTP 2015:44). / These are the nine musical elements, that is the main components of music: melody, rhythm, harmony, form, tone, pitch, tempo, volume and texture.

whakaohorere
1. (verb) (-tia) to startle, surprise.
Tērā kua mōhio atu te hāwini ki te aituātanga o te kōkā o te wahine nei, otirā i tōna urunga atu ki roto i te rūma ka whakaohorere i tōna āhua me te mea kāore rawa atu ia i te mātau (TP 6/1913:6). / The maid knew about the mishap of the mother of this woman, but when she entered the room the maid appeared to be surprised as if she had no idea of this.
2. (modifier) sudden, unexpected, surprising, unanticipated, unforeseen.
3. (noun) surprise, element of surprise.
Ko te karamata, arā, te tino pahūtanga, te huringa pea o te kiripuaki matua ki te whai i ara kē. He āhuatanga ohorere pea ka puta i tēnei wāhanga o te paki, ka kīia ko te whakaohorere (RMR 2017). / The climax, that is the main eruption, is when the main character sets about following a different path. It is probably a surprising feature when it occurs in this part of the story and is called the element of surprise.
2. (verb) (-a) to wipe out, forgive.
Kua murua ōna tini hara (PT Ruka 7:47). / Her sins, which are many, are forgiven.
3. (stative) be ended, brought to an end, cut short, finished.

4. (stative) be cropped, amputated, truncated, having the end cut off.
I tōna whakaaro nui kia ora ia, pōutoa ana e ia tōna ringa - pai atu te ringa mutu i te rua o ngā ringa ki te urupā (TP 1/12/1901:5). / Because his sole focus was to survive, he cut off his hand - better an amputated hand than two hands in the cemetery.
5. (noun) amputee.
Ko te mea i whanokē ai taua mārenatanga he mutu taua wahine i mārenatia rā, kāore ōna ringaringa. Ko te rīngi i kuhua ki te toru o ngā matimati o te waewae mauī (TWMNT 3/11/1874:278). / The thing that was peculiar about that wedding was that the bride was an amputee, she had no arms. The ring had to be placed on the third toe of her left foot.
