Kātahi ka mea mai me mau e au ki te nūpepa o Taupō kia whakaahuatia (HP 1991:308). / Then it was decided that I should take it to Taupō's newspaper to be photographed.

Mō te kaihaka tāne, ka kīia ko Tānerore te whakaahuatanga (RMR 2017). / Transformation is the ultimate skill and achievement of an actor to enter into and become the character they are portraying. A similar pinnacle is reached in kapa haka where a woman expert in the arts of haka ‘becomes’ Hineruhi, one of the atua of the whare tapere. For a male, the transformation is to become Tānerore (RMR 2017).

pihipihi
1. (noun) silvereye, waxeye, white-eye, Zosterops lateralis lateralis - a small, common, green bird with a conspicuous white eye-ring, olive-green head and upperparts, a grey back and creamy-white underparts with pinkish-brown flanks. This photograph is of fledgling birds.

2. (noun) rifleman, Acanthisitta chloris - Aotearoa/New Zealand's smallest bird, distinguished by its rounded wings, a very short stumpy tail and a fine, slightly upturned bill. The male is bright yellow-green above while the female is streaked dark and light brown and both have whitish underparts. Found in native forests and scrub.

Hatupatu
1. (personal name) Arawa ancestor who was killed by his elder brothers for eating their preserved pigeons. He was revived by karakia but was held captive by Kurangaituku until he eventually escaped. The photograph shows the rock that Hatupatu is reputed to have hidden in when escaping from Kurangaituku.
