E meinga ana i kite a Kāwana Paipai i tērā manu, i te moa, e hāereere ana i nga mānia o Te Waimate (KO 15/8/1884:2). / Kāwana Paipai Te Whetūrangi passed away in Pūtiki, Whanganui, on the 13th of June, 1884. He was almost 100 years old when he died. It’s said that Kāwana Paipai saw the moa bird wandering the Te Waimate plains.
