1. (verb) (-tia) to confound, bewilder, baffle, confuse, dupe.

Ka whakatekateka i ngā Māori kia whawhai ki a rātou. Ko ngā Māori e mea ana ki te hoko i ngā whenua, ka piri ki te Pākehā, hei āwhina i aua Māori kino (JPS 1945:196). / They duped the Māori to fight against them. The Māori who schemed to sell the lands, clung to the Pākehā, who helped those evil Māori.
