1. (verb) (-tia) to whisper, gossip, backbite, defame, denigrate.

I te mutunga o te karakia, i te whakaminenga e haere ana ki waho, ka kōhimuhimu atu ahau ki roto i ō rātou taringa (HKW 1/12/1898:6). / At the end of the church service when the congregation was going outside, I whispered in their ears.
