1. (modifier) unmarried, free, single, unattached.

Otirā tokohia ngā wāhine Māori e noho takakau ana, ā hākui noa? Kotahi pea i roto i te mano (TP 8/1907:1). / But how many Māori women remain unmarried right through to old age? Perhaps one in a thousand.
