1. (noun) muttonbird, sooty shearwater, Puffinus griseus, young of the sooty shearwater - a grey-faced petrel with a long slender bill hooked at the tip and silvery-grey flash on the underwings, which nests in underground burrows.
2. (noun) short-tailed shearwater, Puffinus tenuirostris - small to medium-sized shearwater with mostly chocolate brown plumage and slightly darker brown cap and collar. Silvery white panels on the underwing. Bill and legs mostly dark brown.
