1. (verb) (-a) to stoop or lean forward, look intently, crane forward.

Ko ngā patupaiarehe e whakataretare iho ana i runga i ngā paiaka o te rākau e moe nei rātou, kia kite i a Te Kanawa (TKP 26/11/1857:4). / The fairies craned forward to look over the roots of the tree where they were sleeping and to see Te Kanawa.
