tīwaha
1. (verb) (-hia,-tia) to shout out, call, yell, bawl, bellow at.
Ka tīwaha atu a Te Whatanui ki a Ngāti Apa ki tōna hiahia ki te houhou i te rongo, me te kī taurangi atu e kore e kitea te kaikaiwaiū i tēnei take āna (TTR 1990:334). / Te Whatanui called out to Ngāti Apa that he wanted to make peace; with the promise that there would be no treachery.
2. (noun) call, shout.
Hai te ono o ia ata, ko tētahi o mātau kua oho kē, kua tīmata te tīwaha, "Maranga, e tū koutou ki runga ki ō koutou waewae!" (HP 1991:111). / At six each morning one of us would have already woken up and begun the call, "Get up, stand on your feet!"
