kakari Play

1. (verb) to battle, fight, agitate for.

Nō rāua ka kakari ki te tono kia whakatūria he kura tuarua mō tō rātau rohe, ka tukua e Whina he whenua raorao hei whakatū kura i Panguru, e ono eka te rahi (TTR 1998:17). / They battled for a secondary school to be established for their area and Whina donated six acres of flat land at Panguru as the site for the school.


2. (noun) fight, battle, skirmish, conflict, clash, fighting.

I te pakanga o Takrouna, tino kitea ai te kaha o te kakari, te toa takitahi o ngā hōia (TTR 2000:114). / At the battle of Takrouna the intensity of the fighting and the individual gallantry was very evident.
