I whānau i te tīmatanga o te rau tau 1800–1899 ki Taumata-ō-hē pā, i te pūtahitanga o ngā awa o Mangatahi, o Maraekākaho me Ngaruroro (TTR 1990:29). / He was born at Taumata-ō-hē pā, at the junction of the Mangatahi, Maraekākaho and Ngaruroro rivers, at the beginning of the nineteenth century.
