pāihi

1. (verb) to be uneasy, perturbed, concerned, anxious, bothered, distrusting, suspicious.

E ai ki te kōrero a Pere, e pāihi ana a Te Kooti ki a ia i te mea he Mihingare, ā, he pūaroha pea ki te Pākehā (TTR 1994:84). / According to Pere himself, Te Kooti was suspicious of him because he was an Anglican and was possibly sympathetic towards Pākehā.
