2. (noun) Westland petrel, Procellaria westlandica - an endemic sea bird that breeds only on the West Coast of the South Island near Punakaiki. Blackish-brown with an ivory beak and black feet. Similar to black petrel, but larger.

3. (noun) New Zealand sandalwood, Mida salicifolia - slender tree of lowland or lower montane forest, up to 6 m tall. Leaves are slender, leathery and somewhat glossy above. Fruit is narrow and bright red.
