1. (verb) to be risky, dangerous, harmful, injurious, take a risk.

Kore rawa a Pine i whakaae māna e tango mai te pare, waiho kētia ana e ia mā te iwi kāinga e whakawhara (TTR 1998:188). / Pine refused to remove the carved lintel, and left it for the local people to take that risk themselves.
