1. (verb) (-hia,-tia) to refresh, restore, revitalise.
Ka riro mā ngā wai makariri o te puna e tāmata tana wairua (PK 2008:841). / It was the cold water of the spring that would refresh her spirit.

2. (verb) (-hia,-tia) to cultivate, till, work the soil.
Nā ōna uri whakaheke te whenua i tāmata (Te Ara 2015). / It was his descendants who cultivated the land.
3. (modifier) arable.
