Tūāwhiorangi Play

1. (personal name) rainbow - a personification of the rainbow and wife of Kahukura. Said to be the bottom one of a double rainbow.

Ka tū a Kahukura, e rua i te tūranga, ko te tāne, ko te wahine. Te ingoa o te wahine ko Tūāwhiorangi, te ingoa o te tāne ko Kahukura (W 1971:448). / When Kahukura appears, there are two parts, the male and the female. The name of the female is Tūāwhiorangi, the name of the male is Kahukura.

I rapu te Māori ki tētahi wāhi o te tūāwhiorangi ki raro i te Tiriti o Waitangi (Te Ara 2009). / Māori sought a share of the spectrum under the Treaty of Waitangi.
