whakapohane

1. (verb) (-tia) to expose the buttocks and private parts - an act of contempt.

Ko tana huringa atu tēnā i tana tuarā kātahi ka whakapohane atu me te kī atu kia kaua a ia e whakaiti i te wahine, i te mea, i puta mai ia i ngā kūwhā o te wahine (TTR 1996:185). / She then turned her back and exposed herself in the derisive act known as whakapohane, saying that he should not belittle women, since a woman had given him birth.

2. (verb) to act in a ridiculous manner.

He tokonga ake nā te ngākau aroha ki te tangata nei, ki a Hirini Taiwhanga o Ngā Puhi, e whakapohane mai nei i waho o te Pāremete o Niu Tīrani (TWMNT 22/8/1876:205). / A feeling of pity rises in the heart for this man, Hirini Taiwhanga of Ngā Puhi, who is acting ridiculously outside of the Parliament of New Zealand.
