1. (verb) (-a,-ngia) to present as an offering.

I whakaritea e rātou ki ngā toto o te reme i whakaherea i te ahiahi ki runga i te āta (TP 8/1911:3). / They arranged for the blood of the lamb to be presented as an offering on the alter in the evening.

2. (modifier) sacrificial.

I tētahi wā tahuna tonutia ana e ngā tohunga tētahi wāhanga o te tahua koha o ngā hākari hei tohu whakahere mā rātou ki te atua (TTR 1998:27). / At one time the tohunga would burn a part of the koha (monetary offering) at feast days as their sacrificial gesture to the atua.
