1. (verb) (-a,-hia,-tia) to scatter about, disperse, distribute.

He mea whakatakoto ngā tainamaiti ki te ara o ngā kāreti, te ohonga i oho ai, tītaritari ana ētahi o aua kāreti, e whā tekau tāngata i whara i taua tahunga (KO 15/11/1883:8). / The dynamite was laid on the carriage way and when it exploded some of the carriages were scattered about and forty people were injured in that explosion.

A youth went there and was watching them, and after a time he put his hand inside the iron fence. Surprise surprise! When the lions struck with their paws, the flesh of the arm was torn to pieces right up to the elbow.
