Their war-party arose, and crossing over landed at Taikonui, where they left their canoes and came on by land, coming upon Ngāti Toa, with Te Pūoho and his companions, whom they surrounded, attacked, and Ngāti Toa were defeated, nearly all of them were killed, very few being saved as prisoners.
