1. (noun) scarlet wrasse, Pseudolabrus miles - a reddish-yellow fish with posterior dark red margins on the scales, pale below with pale red longitudinal stripes on the sides. A distinctive purplish-black bar across the base of the tail. Body elongated and compressed. Endemic to Aotearoa/New Zealand. Common at subtidal depths below 10 m and favours areas of broken rock and crevices.
