1. (verb) (-tia) to be orphaned.

He whanaunga tonu ētahi nōna, ko ētahi rā kua pani noa, kua mahue hapa kē rānei, tae atu ki ngā tamariki o ngā whānau o te hau kāinga e tūkinotia ana (TTR 2000:29). / Some were her own relations, some had been orphaned, or just neglected, or were children from local families who were abused.
