E ai ki te kōrero, he hapū manaaki, whāngai i te ope mō te hemo tonu atu, koirā i puta ai te kōrero, ‘te iwi tīrare kai, pāhao kai e’ (EM 2002:107). / According to accounts, it is an hospitable hapū that does its utmost to feed visitors, hence the saying, 'the tribe that collects and gleans food'.
