1. (noun) half-burnt stick, firebrand, piece of burning wood.

Kua kite anō ahau i te tangata e tanu ana i tana ahi kia mate. Kuhua ana ngā ngotungotu ki roto ki te oneone ka pirau (TH 1/8/1860:3). / I have actually seen a person burying his fire to extinguish it. The pieces of burning wood are thrust into the ground and they're extinguished.
