nanamu
1. (verb) to sting, irritate, tingle.

Mō ana puāwai i whakatupuria ai, arā, hei mea whakakawa i te pia e kainga nei kia nanamu ai ki te korokoro, kia mau roa ai hoki, arā, kia kore ai e piro (TWMNT 11/1/1879:234). / This plant, the hop, has been grown in Europe for a long time for its flowers, which are used in giving a bitter flavour to beer so that it tingles the palate, as well as for preserving it, that is so that it does not go off.
2. (verb) to flash, glitter, shimmer.
Ka whanatu noa mai a Māui, e nanamu noa ana mai ngā puapua o Hine-nui-te-pō (White 2 1889:71). / Māui came and the vulva of Hine-nui-te-pō was shimmering.
