Ko te ihu o te waka, e rua, e toru ngā ingoa o taua wāhi; ko te aupounamu tōna wāhi whakamutunga, ko te matutu te tuarua. Ko te wāhi tēnei e whakanohoia ai te tauihu o te waka, ko te mutunga mai ko te toitoi (W 1971:195). / The prow of the canoe has two or three names; the aupounamu is the end, the matutu is the second name. This is the part where the prow figurehead of the canoe sits, and the end is the toitoi.
