1. (verb) (-a) to be ending, concluding.

Ka mutumutu haere ngā pakanga, ko te kī, whakamauāhara a Tūpaea ki a Te Arawa mō ngā raru maha i pā ki tōna iwi (TTR 1990:373). / When the wars were ending, Tūpaea was described as embittered towards Te Arawa concerning the many problems his tribe had sustained.

2. (verb) (-a,-ria) to crop off appendages, truncate, mutilate.

I mutumutu kinotia ngā ika o te riri (Ng 1993:292). / The victims of the battle were badly mutilated (Ng 1993:292).

3. (noun) stump (of a limb, wing, etc.).

Kātahi ka tukua mai ko tētahi parirau ki roto ki te whare, tae rawa ki roto, maka iho ai te patu, kua motu. Ka toro anō ko tētahi parirau, maka iho ai te patu, nā kua motu. Ka rere ko te mutumutu kau (TP 6/1909:5). / Then a wing was put into the house, but as soon as it reached inside the club was struck down and it was cut off. The other wing was then stretched out and the club came down and it too was cut off. It flew off with just the stumps.
