Nō te ata haere mai ngā tāne. Ka tae mai ki te kāinga i noho ai a Tāne. Ka homai i te mataahi. Kāhore a Tāne kia hiahia atu ki taua mataahi (TP 1/1913:3). / In the morning the men came. When they reached the village where Tāne lived they gave him food prepared on a spit, but Tāne did not want that food prepared on a spit.
