Inarā ko te ingoa whānui o taua wāhi ko Te Kūreitanga-o-te-ihu-o-Tamatekapua (Te Ara 2016). / When Te Arawa landed in the North Island, the headland of Ōkūrei was claimed by its chief, Tamatekapua, by likening it to the point of his nose. Hence the general name of that place, Te Kūreitanga-o-te-ihu-o-Tamatekapua (the point of Tamatekapua's nose).
