Ka tae ki te wai, ka kīia e tērā, “Kōwarowaro ana te wai.” Mau tonu iho hei ingoa, ko Ōwaro (W 1971:152). / On reaching the water that one said, "The stream has steep sided banks." That was retained as the name, Ōwaro.
