Hinekōrako

1. (personal noun) lunar rainbow, personification of the lunar rainbow.

Ka poropiti anō ia, tērā a Ūawa e ekengia e te riri. Ka tukuna mai ko Hinekōrako hei tohu mōna (TTR 1990:217). / He also predicted that war would come to Tolaga Bay. Hinekōrako (the lunar rainbow) was sent as a sign for him.
Nā, ki te tū te kōpere he kōmā āhua pūkohu nei, he tohu, he tūpāpaku tēnā kei te takiwā i tū ai ia; ko Hinekōrako tēnā kōpere (JPS 1927:357). / Now, if a rainbow of a pale, somewhat misty aspect appears, that is a sign that a person has died at the place where the bow appears; that form of rainbow is called Hinekōrako.
