E kaha ana ki te tango i te āhua o ngā mea katoa, ahakoa he aha te āhua; he wai, he rākau, he kōwhatu, he oneone, he hau, he haunui, he ngārara, he kiore, he uira, he kapua, he kurī, he tangata me ērā atu mea (JPS 1922:48). / They are all gods that dwell in the twelve heavens. They are all genes as are the females and their descendants; they are all supernatural beings. They have the ability to take on the semblance of all things whatever their nature; water, trees, stones, earth, wind, dew, reptiles, rats, lightning, clouds, dogs, man, and many other things.
